Yesterday’s word count: 1,728 (1,015 journal, 713 writing!)
Very happy to have written yesterday. That’s the point of this effort: to build a writing routine into my daily life, and to improve my writing practice over time. I’m thankful to my younger daughter for her inspiration in writing. All of this started because of a challenge she made to me. I’m still working my way around to getting started on the challenge, which is to produce a short story every two weeks, but I’m grateful just to be writing again. Day one.
Today is an office day, so this is the kind of day when I feel it will be more challenging to get time writing. I may try to write during lunch, but my best shot is likely to come tonight, at home, while I’m waiting for everyone to come home for dinner.
9:16. Winding up the day now. Instead of writing tonight, I did a bit of world building, something I have to do for both of my longer planned works. Some of it was a rehash of what I’ve already thought about, but I’m trying to cement things into place so I can get on with the storytelling itself.
Naming conventions for characters is another challenge. I’m tempted to resort to Scrivener’s name generator, but for now I want to see what I am capable of developing on my own. I’ll use the name generator for short stories, where I’m investing less time.
But I’m happy to have spent some time on writing again today. I also got a mile walk in, which is something I also need to do.
